I’ve never worked in a restaurant, but family members have and I know that it’s really hard and demanding. Whenever my food is not well-cooked, I also remind my self that the wait staff isn’t responsible.

Yeah, we thought about the garage/yard/moving sale thing but decided against it. We both hate having them and really don’t have the free time without taking extra off from work… which would defeat the purpose in a way. We’re going to try to get Salvation Army or Goodwill or some such to come by with a small truck and a big tax deduction and take everything away. There’s a ton of stuff, most of which isn’t worth selling, but you pile it all up at donation prices and it’s a hefty chunk of change written off.
The main issue will just be timing the pickup to meet up with our schedules. Still so much to do!

I just finished a move–I should say, I have moved all my crap from one place to another. As I type I am looking at the components of either a really small business or a bloated as hell hobby plus my personal piles o’stuff.

We did a garage sale–online for my soapy stuff and in our driveway for the household things. I wish I’d had time to do more looking thru my crap before the sale because there’s a lot of stuff that’s going to have to go elsewhere, like the awesome pumps I can’t wear anymore due to nerve problems in my legs and other such stuff.

I don’t know if they have garage sales in Boston but if they do it’s a good idea and helps fund the move.

Yeah, definitely very frustrating and difficult. I’ve done it three times so far in my life, once for my aunt, then for my dad’s mother, and then for my mom’s dad. Really heart-wrenching, but there is a comfort in the knowledge of the end, and you can make peace both with them and yourself. Definitely a good thing to be sure that you’ve said all you need to say, and asked all you need to ask.

Here’s a thought: is your external drive formatted as HFS+ (Mac) or FAT32 (Windows)? ‘Cause if it’s not formatted HFS+, then Mac files will end up being bigger on the external. You can check the format by opening up Disk Utility.

“checkwait” is kinda like a closer.. but we have a big restaurant with no cleaning crew, and a really psycho inspector that shows up randomly, so checkwait closes… and makes sure everyone does ALL the sidework, and then cleans up after everyone who doesn’t do it. Bleh. It sucks… but if it’s done well, it’s not so bad. If it’s done badly, everyone suffers, especially management, whose bonus checks rely on the inspections mentioned above. Crazy, right??
